COMIC BOOK RESOURCES INTERVIEW WITH MIKE OEMING & ANDY SCHMIDT
Discuss this in the Alpha Waves Forum.
|
Omega Flight writer Mike Oeming and editor Andy Schmidt discuss updated plans with CBR
"In the long run, I think Canadians will love it because the contrast between Americans and Canadians is the best way to explore both cultures. I understand the knee-jerk reaction to the cast, but I think a few issues in will clear that all up. Why so few Canadians? At this point, there are three on or working with the team, although in the promo image we only see one."

OEMING'S INTENTIONS TO BRING MORE ALPHA ELEMENTS INTO OMEGA FLIGHT
Discuss this in the Alpha Waves Forum.
Michael Avon Oeming commented on the Alpha Waves Forum that he has intentions to incorporate elements of original Alpha Flight into his up-coming Omega Flight series. Though some old-school fans have been critical of the previews, and lack of classic characters, Oeming has shown an interest to incorporate them in time.
"Truth be told, when we started, it was all about getting away from old Flight because of sales- and thats still our MARKETING stratagy, but more time goes by, the more we are incorporating things from the original Flight:)
It wont look like that, especially in the firs few issues, but trust me, at this point the book is very grounded in Flights history and tradition.
M!"

Discuss this in the Alpha Waves Forum.
|
Omega Flight artist Scott Kollins recently discussed his role in launching the new Omega Flight series with Michael Avon Oeming. Scott also unveiled a Snowbird sketch he had done.
"I’m just beginning that research now. Dollar coins huh? Ok, thanks, I’ll make a note. Though I really hope Mike doesn’t write any stripper scenes in Omega. Who wrote that stuff in Alpha?? Good grief, that’s what comics need: strippers!"

BETA RAY BILL ANNOUNCED AS THE FIRST OFFICIAL MEMBER OF OMEGA FLIGHT!
Discuss this in the Alpha Waves Forum.
|
Michael Avon Oeming announed in an interview with Newsarama that Beta Ray Bill is officially one of the members of Omega Flight.
Oeming in interview with Newsarama:
"MO: Okay, I'll give this one up because I love you and Beta Ray Bill. Plus, 90% of the posts I read already guessed it and the other were thinking it was something like Thunderstrike or a robot Thor, no one fell for it as being Thor himself, however he is returning- so yes, that clearly is Beta Ray Bill!
Bill is a character I want to see become a mainstay in the Marvel Universe, not a C-level character who is treated as a joke. My god, he beat up Thor at his strongest!!! And he did it with his own hammer! Sure, he's from space and he has an orange horse skull, but Namor lives under the sea with wings on his ankles and Captain America wears his underwear outside of his tight! So what?"

NEW SERIES - OMEGA FLIGHT!
Discuss this in the Alpha Waves Forum.
|
Marvel has announced at Toronto Comic-Con that Michael Avon Oeming will be writing a new Alpha Flight-based book called Omega Flight. The artist for the new series will be Scott Kolins.
Oeming in interview with SBC:
"And let me say “It’s not your father’s Alpha Flight.” I mean this in a respectful way, respectful to fans of the original Flight and to the origins of the series. The first year of Alpha Flight contained some of the best comics Marvel ever produced, so instead of trying to rehash that, or fix mistakes of recent past, we thought it would be best to dump all the baggage, good and bad and move on to the future."

Oeming in interview with Newsarama:
A bit. A few of us tried pitching “Alpha Flight” a few times before they died, and frankly no one was biting. The name leaves a bad taste in people’s mouth, there’s a bit of a giggle effect on some level even. If Flight was to come back and come back in a big way, we need to show people the old baggage is left behind. And yet, we are trying to be clear to past fans that while we are moving forward, we are not forgetting the past. While not “retconning” anything, think of it like the new Battlestar Galactica many old fans were pissed at first, but after a bit, they saw the respect and love for the old through the new. We want to do the same.
Marvel wants to give this the big push, they aren’t just bringing back Flight for the hell of it, and this isn’t a mini-series or some series they are tossing to the wall to see if it sticks. Marvel wants Flight to be a player in the Marvel Universe, which is why we felt the best way to do that was to start fresh. The name does a lot for that. Its done out of love and hope for the new book, not disrespect for the old. It is in many ways, "Alpha Flights" last chance for the foreseeable future.
