You know...I don't think any creator is a "big fan" of their own work (unless they are huge Narcissists, which John Byrne has never struck me as being) and most artists/writers are their own worst critics. He's explained several times why he didn't want to see Alpha Flight in their own series or why he didn't really want to do the book.

It's best to check at the link I provided below and see why he feels the way he does (in his own words)...

In short: He feels they never should have been anything other than a team made to survive a battle with the X-Men...However, I've said this before and I'll say again...The same thing could be said of Wolverine, who was created to just be an opponent for the Hulk to battle in Canada...Yet he was used past that appearance and went beyond (thanks to other writers and artists, including Mr Byrne) what he was originally intended for.

I've long since dismissed his opinions, and just concentrated on his work.

Ben, I think that's for the best.

It's always sad for me when it comes to that with a favourite artist.

Dana, thanks for the thread. I read it and it seems to me that JB almost underrealized (if that is even a word) the true potential of his creation. He didn't seem to know/think that people were ready for a superhero group from Canada (the first issue sold 500,000 copies). I agree with your opinion on Wolverine and I also think that there were/are alot more characters in the comic world that were originally conceived as a one-shot type that later became a staple in said comic world. Thanks again.
